Deskbar-Applet is an application developed for the GNOME desktop that assists the user in finding documents and programs on his/her computer. It is similiar to Apple's Spotlight, but doesn't try to imitate it at all.
It's written mostly in Python and therefore easily extendable. There are many plugins out there that make your everyday computer usage a lot easier.
